High frequency chargers cut energy costs

Warehousing business Norish Foods has cut energy costs by 40% with the introduction of high frequency chargers for its electric forklift fleet.

HF trak air chargers, from Hoppecke, have cut battery charging time to six hours, meaning fewer batteries and chargers are required for the Flexi articulated forklift fleet at Norish Foods' Brierley Hill, West Midlands cold store site. Norish MD Norman Hatcliffe said: "The really great benefit of Hoppecke trak air is the 40% energy saving we achieved. It meant we were able to obtain payback on our investment in under 12 months as well as real long-term high power performance from our fleet of Flexi trucks." Other Hoppecke customers reporting impressive savings include builders merchant Travis Perkins, which says it is saving £250,000 each year on running its fleet of counterbalance forklifts and reach trucks. Travis Perkins moved from IC-engine to electric trucks: it specified trak air batteries from Hoppecke, along with HF chargers. The trak air system protects batteries from overcharging and the HF chargers mean charging is two and half hours faster than before.
