Meltham Mills engineers better finger on the pulse

Transmission engineering specialist Meltham Mills Engineering says it has significantly reduced costs since implementing a Syspro system from K3 McGuffie Brunton on January 1 this year.

Peter Fletcher, Meltham Mills’ marketing and operations director says: “The benefits of the system so far – in particular accountability and reporting – have been enormous. Its reporting means we have our finger on the pulse of the business, allowing us to know on a day-to-day basis exactly where we are.” Meltham Mills Engineering provides precision heat treatment and metallurgical services, supplying machined, heat treated and surface finished power transmission components to earth moving and agricultural vehicle manufacturers. Since taking over in August 2005, the firm’s current management have focused their efforts on the needs of their customers. Major investments have been made in lean manufacturing and CNC/CMM, for tighter production times, as well as the Syspro system. Fletcher says that by the end of March this year, the system was already helping the Meltham Mills to better identify company-wide operational expenditure, and to cut costs. The firm says it is already planning to extend its ERP system, with shopfloor data capture high on the agenda. It hopes that this will enable Meltham Mills to gain full traceability of products and material and the necessary audit trails.
