Remote shuttle device automates pallet racking

Storage equipment supplier Bito has launched a remote-controlled shuttle device which can turn conventional pallet racking into semi-automated operations.

The PROmotion Shuttle is battery-powered and feeds pallets in and out of the lane in which it is operating. Moving on purpose-built guide rails, the shuttle 'drives' up and down the lane on its own and can be relocated into another lane with a forklift truck. The shuttle uses a lithium-ion-battery; batteries will operate for 12 hours between charging. The PROmotion system is suitable for LIFO (last in, first out) handling processes and covers all aspects that contribute to improved efficiency, including: undisrupted pallet infeeding and outfeeding, stock control and compact storage by continuously monitoring occupied and available storage positions. Programming is easy and flexible, and the system allows intuitive and safe servicing. Controls and safety technology also allow FIFO (first in, first out) operation with two shuttles in the same lane. What's more, the system can be switched from LIFO to FIFO operation as required.
