Apple crunches business processes with Lanner Witness

iPhone and iPod manufacturer Apple, has bought into the Witness manufacturing simulation system from Lanner, for process innovation at its Cupertino, USA headquarters.

The licence and maintenance agreement means Witness 12 will become instrumental in simulating and optimising business processes in Apple. The firm will be able to represent real world processes in a dynamic, animated computer model, experimenting with alternative 'what-if ' scenarios in order to optimise production across its business empire. "Technology leaders – even those as far ahead as Apple – know they are not unassailable, so they keep innovating products and processes that push the envelope," comments David Jones, CEO of Lanner. "In a recent IDC Manufacturing Insights survey, nearly 80% of the high tech respondents said that the key to sustained growth is through product innovation," he continues. "That necessitates a culture of risk-taking to deliver constant innovation... Simulation helps to support process innovation and mitigate the risks involved with being a true market leader."
