Birds Eye feeds more responsibility to logistics partner

Birds Eye has extended its logistics partnership with Norbert Dentressangle to include the storage and supply of packaging and ambient raw materials, along with on-site shunting operations into the manufacturer's award-winning manufacturing complex in Lowestoft.

Birds Eye operates four factories in Lowestoft producing around 120,000 tonnes of premium branded frozen vegetable, chicken and fish products every year for the UK and, increasingly, export markets. Birds Eye needed a storage solution which could be scaled up to support continued volume growth in the manufacturing operations. Norbert Dentressangle is providing temperature-controlled ambient storage for up to 3,500 pallets of packaging and ingredients, such as seasonings and coating, and transporting these into the factories. Under an existing contract, the firm is also responsible for the storage and supply of frozen ingredients into Birds Eye's Lowestoft manufacturing facilities. In total, the company delivers around 30 loads per day into the factories in a 24/7 operation. Craig Hamilton, general manager for Birds Eye's Lowestoft operations, said: "At Birds Eye, Lowestoft we are keen to establish and develop strategic partnerships throughout our supply chain. Working with companies that can bring expertise, while driving service, innovation and cost savings, is crucial to our long-term success. We believe that we have a long-term opportunity to develop further and sustain a strategic relationship with Norbert Dentressangle." Norbert Dentressangle is also responsible for the management of Birds Eye's pea processing plant in Hull, where up to one tonne of peas per minute can be washed, blanched and frozen.
